The Student Government Association (SGA) is dedicated to providing the students of Pepperdine University with quality representation through innovative advocacy programs. When a need arises, we strive not to just pass that concern on to the administration, but to offer real solutions. Governed by an elected executive board, class presidents, senators, and appointed directors, SGA has several committees that work with administrators, faculty, and staff across the University to address student needs.

What is the history of SGA?
SGA has been a part of Pepperdine’s history for many years, but a significant shift occurred in 2003 when Jason Palmer, the SGA President at the time, questioned, "Why is our governing body a programming board?" This led to the creation of the Student Programming Board, which allowed SGA to focus more on student advocacy and governance. As a result, SGA evolved into a professional, well-respected organization dedicated to serving the student body through policy.
What is the purpose of SGA?
SGA exists to advocate for student issues to the administration on behalf of the student body. We propose advocacy resolutions and fund requests to address areas of need and improve student life. Through collaboration with university administration, SGA ensures that students have a voice in shaping policies and initiatives that affect their experience at Pepperdine.
How can I propose ideas or concerns to SGA?
Advocacy resolutions and general fund requests are not restricted to SGA members and any student at Seaver College, Pepperdine University, is welcome to propose their ideas or concerns. To submit your proposal, you can follow the template in the resources section and email it to sgaadminvp@pepperdine.edu for further instructions.
Alternatively, you can reach out to a senator to collaborate and bring your idea to fruition.
How does SGA receive funds?
Our funding comes from the Campus Life Fee, which is paid by each Seaver student each semester ($126). This fee is allocated to campus life organizations that enhance your college experience through programs, events, education, opportunities, and advocacy. The distribution of funds is as follows: the Student Programming Board receives 40%, the Interclub Council (ICC) receives 25%, the Seaver Wellness Advisory Board (SWAB) receives 10%, and the Student Government Association (SGA) receives 25%.
